Step into the world of Cyanotype, a 19th century photographic process that uses UV exposure to create stunning blue and white prints — no darkroom, no camera, just chemistry and creativity.
This session is a special collaboration with local potter Kristin Young of Love YAAH More Ceramics! Kristin is hand-making ceramic pieces just for this workshop, so alongside the usual paper and fabric prints, you'll also get to cyanotype directly onto a one-of-a-kind ceramic piece to take home (one included in your workshop fee). Falling in love with the process? Kristin will have extra ceramic pieces on hand to purchase in class if you want to go home with more than one.
We'll start with a quick overview of the history behind cyanotype and how the process works, then dive right into the fun part. You'll arrange compositions using plants, objects, film negatives, or anything with an interesting shape, lay them onto your pre-treated light-sensitive object and let the UV rays do the rest. During the workshop you'll print several pieces of paper, a piece of fabric — take it home and turn it into a patch, a pocket, a wall hanging, or whatever inspires you and of course a ceramic piece from Love YAAH More.
We'll have plenty of materials on hand, but if you have something special you'd like to bring — a feather, a pressed flower, a meaningful object — you're more than welcome to bring it along.
